The event will be held on the first floor of the KAJITA Building in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo from Friday, March 20th to Sunday, March 29th.

KAJITA, a brand specializing in colored stones, is a company founded in Tokyo in 1920. From Friday, March 20th to Sunday, March 29th, 2026, KAJITA will hold a joint exhibition titled "Colours" with the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School of Fine Arts, Department of Design, Laboratory 5.

This exhibition features works by six graduate students from the 5th Laboratory, each with their own distinctive personalities. The word "colours" is often used to describe a person's individuality or characteristics. The six students featured in this exhibition range widely in scope, from themes to expressive techniques. We hope that you will be able to sense the "small but definite fragments of something" that emerge from their unique perspectives as they observe and capture the everyday and society.

KAJITA is delighted to be able to support the young talents who will lead the next generation of expression in Minami-Aoyama, a place where culture thrives. At the heart of KAJITA is a respect for the individuality of each gemstone, which develops beautiful colors over time, and a sincere attitude toward Japanese craftsmanship.

We hope you will enjoy the moment when the fresh sensibilities of these young artists shine quietly and powerfully, like gemstones freshly dug from the earth.

In addition, on Saturdays during the exhibition, there will be workshops planned by members of the 5th Laboratory.

Title of the work: "Moon Funeral Ceremony"

Ryuta IEHARA

Artist's comment:

In today's world, where science is becoming more and more prevalent, the "land of the dead" that once existed in each religious belief is on the verge of being lost. In order to restore a place for the dead within people and create a connection with the deceased, we propose a company that buries the body and spirit of the deceased on the moon. This will bring a sense of the presence of loved ones on the moon, a star that will never be lost, and create great relief above the heads of lonely nights.

Title of the work: "Tamayu"

Hiyori KADOWAK I

Artist's comment:

A lively town

Wood gap

A human voice.

In a spacious room

Wrapped in clothes.

The sound melts

Soak in

Become my cocoon.

Title of the work: "Chocon's Found Street Corner"

Chisato Saito

Artist's comment:

I searched for places in residential areas where I could spend a short time alone, and depicted the ideal way to spend time there. My research focused on my interest in places known as "third spaces" and the culture of "alone time" that has changed since the COVID-19 pandemic. The "solo culture" that has continued since the 1960s has, since the COVID-19 pandemic, come to place even more importance on the balance between time spent with others and time spent alone. Aren't there more places where people can spend a little time together before going home, places where they can get away from the community for a short time? This work was created from that idea.

Title: "Glimmer"

Masari HAYASHI

Artist's comment:

A faint glow that represents me.

Things I like.

Something important.

Memories and memories of those days.

My colorful favorites are:

Something that has quietly continued to breathe throughout the time we have walked.

I'm sure you have that same faint spark within you too.

Title of the work: "Denshin-tou"

Kazuki NOMURA

Artist's comment:

Facial expressions play an extremely important role in communication. However, under the social convention that being expressive is not always the best solution, we have often intentionally suppressed our facial expressions. As a result, we are unable to express our intentions not only through words but also through facial expressions.

There are people who don't have the habit of expressing themselves, or even expressing themselves. They use a mask to transmit their feelings to others.

Title of the work: "Playing with Nature"

Natsumi MAKI

This project is an attempt to collect and reconstruct footage from the area around an industrial waste site in Aichi Prefecture. The project visualizes, as a flat accumulation, the process by which human interaction with nature is redefined as one of enjoyment and harmony, rather than destruction.
